We all know that Jennifer Lopez is EVERYTHING. She can sing! She can dance! She can act! She's an adorable mom! And she apparently can give some spot on advice to people that will change their worlds.
Alex Rodriguez just opened up about how a specific piece of advice Jennifer gave him just a couple months after the two started dating changed things for him, and it all had to do with being authentic.
Alex covers the July issue of Sports Illustrated and in the interview talked about what Jennifer said that helped him break out of his public persona known as "the Robot."
“I had it backwards... I tried to say the right things, to be manipulative, instead of doing the right things. For so long, I took the approach that it doesn’t matter what they write; I’m just going to go out and be the best baseball player I can be. I didn’t realize that it actually does matter.”
So what was it that Jennifer said to him?
Well, less than a month into dating Jennifer, Alex sent her a video of a press conference he had done and asked for her opinion on how he did.
While she at first said it was great, she later broke down and shared some advice about what she thought he could do better, specifically regarding the fact that Alex had told a reporter he didn't miss playing baseball.
Alex says she told him: “You could have smiled, once... You’re silly, you’re funny; I know that now. And why did you say you’re fine without baseball? You love baseball. You miss baseball. It’s okay to let people know that."
In the Sports Illustrated interview, Jennifer said: “The key to being in the public eye is being your best self... It’s not being fake. It’s being you. But the best version of you.”
And that advice marked a big change for Alex!
“She knows how to communicate to the masses in ways I never will... She just sees it. She helps me out all the time when I’m trying to land a point on something. She’s just a wordsmith.”
How sweet!
And I think it's safe to say that over the last 2 years, since Jennifer gave this advice, Alex definitely has been a little more loosened up with his public persona. It's like we actually get to know him! And not just the Robot.
