Jada Pinkett Smith Talks Going From 'Married' To 'Life Partners' With Will

Our parent, couple, and general life role models Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have given us another reason to be obsessed with them.

Jada recently opened up about why she and Will went from simply "being married" to being "life partners" and, honestly, this new perspective on sharing a life with someone is really refreshing.

Jada and Will no longer refer to each other as being married, and have fully switched to being life partners. But, why exactly would they make this switch? It's all about how they view marriage and partnership, and seeing each other in a different way.

“I needed a different form to dissolve all the expectations that I had of a marriage,” Jada told PEOPLE. “I needed to do that to see Will outside of husband and see him as a human being... We have all these expectations... ’Oh, this is what a husband is. This is what a wife is.’ I started dissolving all the ideas and expectations and labels.”

The couple has been married for just over 20 years and have two kids - Jaden, 20, and Willow, 17. Though they have been married for two decades, they still continue to work on their relationship and evolve what "marriage" means to them.

Jada hosts a Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, and will have her husband Will on the next episode (this coming Monday!) to talk about their relationship and how it has changed over the years.

On Will coming on the show, Jada said, "we talk about redefining our relationship, going from calling ourselves married to becoming life partners... I felt like there was a way to speak about that that was open and transparent. But there are still aspects that are private!”

Love. This. Couple. They're always keeping it real. Now I really do want to tune into her show to see what their whole view of "life partners" is!
