In what they call an "unprecedented" move, a Chicago-based group of scientists in charge of the symbolic "Doomsday Clock"--which represents a countdown to global catastrophe caused by climate change or nuclear annihilation--announced today that they have moved the clock 30 seconds closer to midnight, a.k.a. humanity's end.
Referencing President Trump, Bulletin of Atomic Scientists member Lawrence Krauss said, "This is the first time the words and stated policy of one or two people placed in high positions has had such an impact to our perception of existential threat." The clock is now set at two-and-a-half minutes before midnight, tying the closest it's ever been to midnight since 1953, when the modern arms race between Russia and the U.S. was kicked off by both countries testing nuclear and hydrogen bombs.
