“Missing Dog” AI Scam Spreading To Multiple States

By now, we all should be crystal clear that there’s no level too low for scammers to sink to in order to get their hands on your money. An AI-generated “missing dog” scam has spread to multiple states, including similar reports out of Texas and Florida. Scammers will call prospective victims and tell them their dog has been hit by a car, and that it’ll require a $2,000 surgical procedure. The panicked victim will then pay the scammer the money, never to be heard from again…leaving them out two grand, but with a dog that was never injured. The scammers are known to use spoofed numbers that have been linked to a server based in India. Scams like this one, and “romance” scams, have resulted in victims losing more than $20 million in 2025 alone.
