Kohler Releases A Camera For Your Toilet

Is this genius or ridiculous, and why is the answer “both?" Home goods company Kohler has released a new device called the Dekoda, a $599 camera that attaches to your toilet bowl and takes pictures of what's inside. The camera analyzes the images to give you information about your gut health, how hydrated you are, and whether there's any blood present. It has a rechargeable battery, USB connection, and a fingerprint sensor to tell who's using the toilet.

The device is available for pre-order with shipments starting today. Besides the purchase price, users will need to pay between $70 and $156 for a subscription to have their poop watched. Kohler says the camera only looks down into the toilet and the data is protected with end-to-end encryption. The company isn't alone in this new field; a startup called Throne also makes a toilet camera.
