A grocery store run can leave you with sticker shock in the aisles and at the checkout line as food prices keep climbing. A lot of Americans are trying anything they can to save a little more at the supermarket and a new report is here to help by revealing the cheapest stores in the country.
- NetCredit has analyzed prices at more than 2-thousand grocery stores that are part of 136 chains in hundreds of cities nationwide.
- They crunched the numbers to find the least expensive stores, on average, in each state and major city.
- According to their research, the cheapest store isn’t a warehouse giant or discount chain, it’s Target.
- The retailer is the most affordable grocery store in 15 states, more than any other chain.
- Target is the cheapest in Florida, Hawaii, and Indiana, as well as major cities including Austin, Texas; Denver, Colorado and Columbus, Ohio.
- Walmart comes in second, it’s the least expensive store in eight states including New York, Pennsylvania and Clifornia, as well as in cities like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
- Grocery Outlet lands at number three, it’s the cheapest in six states, including Ohio, Oregon and Washington.
- In Oregon, it’s 32.70% cheaper than the average supermarket in the state, the biggest saving in any state in the study.
