Still stuck on what to get the moms in your life for Mother’s Day this year? While you still have a few weeks to figure it out (it’s on Sunday, May 11th), we know a lot of guys out there probably haven’t even started to think about what to do or buy for the mother of their kids. And to help make sure they don’t mess it up, content creator and mom Dom Martin has put together a simple, informative guide.
In a TikTok video, she holds her laptop to the screen to present a slideshow, “Gifts Moms Actually Want For Mother’s Day.” And Dom makes it clear that a candle or new robe definitely don’t cut it. She lays out the do’s and don’ts for gift giving for moms on their special holiday:
- For the do’s, number one is to plan ahead. If you wait until the last minute, you will regret it, according to this mom.
- Next up is “personalize the gift” and think about what mom really wants.
- Number three on the do’s is to “pay attention.” As Dom explains, “This is somebody who birthed a kid on your behalf. You should probably know what they like and what they don’t.”
- First on the don’t list? “Mama” presents. “I’m going to hold your hand when I say this,” she shares. “If she wanted something that said ‘mama’ on it, she probably already bought it for herself. At this point, it’s low-hanging fruit.”
- Number two is “anything cleaning-related,” because according to Dom that’s “giving Cinderella. It’s giving ‘clean up after me.’ Not ‘I love you.’”
- The next don’t is “searching on Amazon for ‘Mother’s Day gifts.” As this mom says, “Anything that comes up on that list, I guarantee you she does not want.”
- And finally, she begs you not to just “guess” what mom wants for Mother’s Day. “This is somebody that you know very deeply and personally. You should know what they want,” Dom points out.
