Active 1st Dates Are More Likely To Lead To 2nd Dates

Successful first dates don’t just happen by chance, there’s an art to creating one that’s not stressful and that’s actually fun. The thing is, you barely know this person and what they like to do, which is part of the reason so many people end up meeting up for drinks or dinner the first time they go out. But new research from matchmaking company Tawkify is giving us a reason to rethink those go-to plans.

Data from some of their millions of single users reveals that first dates that involve an activity are more likely to lead to a second date than meet-ups at bars or restaurants. Specifically, taking a cooking class together on a first date can boost your chance of getting a second date by 25% and going hiking makes it 50% more likely you’ll score a second date. But these active dates can be anything that gets people on their feet and trying something new, like going to a museum, strolling through a botanical garden or going to a concert.

“The rise in popularity of activity dates mirrors research that suggests couples who engage in activities together are happier, stronger and more connected to each other,” explains Brie Temple, CCO and ‘Chief Matchmaker’ at Tawkify. “In contrast, bar dates are typically noisy distraction-filled environments that are not the most conducive to authentic interactions and getting to know someone on a deeper level.”
