Less Than Half Of Americans Care Who Wins Super Bowl

Football fans are getting excited about the Super Bowl, which is coming up on February 9th, but for most of them, the action on the field isn’t the best part. It turns out, less than half of Americans care which team wins the big game, according to new research.

A survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults over age 21 finds that just 48% actually care who gets the W for Super Bowl 59. What matters more to them is the food.

  • A quarter of those polled admit they’re more interested in the food at a Super Bowl party than the game itself.
  • It’s more exciting to fans than the commercials (38%) or even the halftime show (47%).
  • More than half (54%) think the food spread at a viewing party can make or break the entire experience.
  • Of course, people have some expectations about the best foods to pair with football and the number one must-have is chicken wings (49%).
  • Barbecue (37%) comes in second, followed by seven-layer dip (36%), pizza (30%), chicken tenders and/or nuggets (30%) and nachos (30%).
  • But some fans like to bring the heat, and the top picks for spicy game day eats are wings, once again (50%), jalapeno poppers (29%) and chili (24%).
  • Sure, eating a plate full of this stuff could lead to heartburn or indigestion, but 44% say they would still chow down despite the potential side effects.
