(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A man is facing charges after stealing a piece of construction equipment and tearing up the ground outside a Salt Lake City grocery store. Police arrested 46-year-old Omar Ortega on Saturday. Investigators say he stole an excavator from a construction site, then drove it about a mile to a Smith's location and started tearing up the ground in front of the store. Damage from the digging was estimated at over 40-thousand dollars. Police have not said why Ortega decided to damage the area in front of the store.
