In North Charleston, South Carolina, first-grade teacher Katie Blomquist was struck by how many students at high-poverty Peppermill Elementary School couldn’t afford to buy bicycles. So she decided to do something about it, launching an online fundraising campaign to raise $65,000 so that all 650 of the school’s students could receive new bikes. With the help of celebrities like Steve Harvey, she exceeded the goal, and on Thursday presented the bicycles to the ecstatic children. "I’ve learned that people really do want to be a part of good things," Blomquist told The Post & Courier.
