The “Can You Hear Me?” Scam Is The Latest Annoyance

There’s a new scam to watch out for. It’s called the “Can you hear me?” scam because the caller asks that or a similar question to get a “yes” out of you. They may keep you on the line by pretending to be a government official or a bank rep, or they may drop off after you say “yes.” The scammers then may use your response, since they record it, to charge stuff to your phone account or elsewhere. So far, though, there aren’t any reports of people losing money. Obviously, never give out financial or personal info over the phone, even if you think you know who is calling.
